14 June 2009, Day 19: Sunday in Oxford
Today I walked to the 11AM Latin Mass at St Aloysius. I love the walk on a lovely day -- and this was a lovely day! The weather was absolutely perfect! I followed the route along Iffley Road, over the bridge, and then Queen's Lane and the back way up north, through the Lamb and Flag Passage, and to the Church.
Mass was lovely although it was a bit disconcerting to have the large woman in front of me with at least one small bug or spider in her hair. Ick. And as she and her husband did not always kneel, and in fact, sometimes oozed over the back of the pew in my direction when I was kneeling, I got a bit of a stretch in avoiding contact through leaning backwards. :P But I saw Fr Robert and Fr Dominic for the first time today! I will see Fr Robert again on Wednesday for tea. AND he said it would probably be alright for me to shoot at Mass next Sunday -- during the Mass!!! We will discuss details at tea.
This is one of my favorite views just past the bridge of sighs. Unfortunately there is construction on at the moment, and the lower part of the Sheldonian is obscured by this -- hence my view of more clouds at the top, rather than the complete building as the bottom!
Mass was lovely -- Christopher Tye and William Byrd. And then a walk to get a very strong and very large Starbucks coffee to feed my addiction, a Sunday paper, and a trip back to Jeremy's where we had eggs on toast for lunch. Then a bit of shooting, a bit more work, a bit of dinner from Cowley Road (non-kosher meat wolfed down there, and chips brought back to the house). Still not feeling 100%, but obviously MUCH better!
15 June 2009, Day 20: Hail and flash flooding in Oxford
Today I was sitting in my room, working on Rare Music and other DUMIC tasks, when a storm hit. I unplugged my power cord and decided it was probably safe to keep working on the laptop.
Then Jeremy came into my room and said (somewhat to my alarm): "You want to have some fun? Come into my bedroom!" Well . . . hoping this invitation related to the storm, I followed him and had a wonderful view of Iffley Road mostly covered in water, with hail on the pavement (sidewalk) and grass nearby. Thank heavens it was the storm he meant! I do love Jeremy, but as a mentor and Godfather -- NOT as a lover!!!
Here you see a police vehicle going the WRONG WAY around the pedestrian Xing traffic bollards. (I know, it looks like the right way, but they drive on the left hand side of the road here . . .)
The rest of the day was filled with drain frustrations (for Jeremy -- although I offered to help, I either had to stay out of the way or get snapped -- transl bellowed -- at) and then computer frustrations (same again on my part). *sigh* I must remind myself it is only a way of interacting . . . all is OK . . .
ANYway, I hope to get back to shooting tomorrow when the light tent arrives (we hope). :)
